RESPITE - IN-HOME

Respite - In-Home is a DBHDD-approved Medicaid waiver service that provides temporary relief to primary caregivers by offering short-term, substitute care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or related support needs. Services are delivered in the individual’s home or place of residence and are designed to ensure continuity of care in a safe, familiar environment.
Respite services are provided in accordance with the Individual Service Plan (ISP) and are based on assessed caregiver need and approved service authorization. The service is intended to support family stability, prevent caregiver burnout, and help maintain the individual’s ability to remain in a community-based living setting.
During respite care, qualified staff provide supervision and assistance with activities of daily living, as outlined in the ISP. Support may include personal care, supervision, skill reinforcement, and engagement in age-appropriate or individualized activities, while ensuring the individual’s health, safety, and well-being.
All In-Home Respite services are delivered in compliance with DBHDD and Medicaid requirements, including documentation, staffing qualifications, and service limitations. Services are provided in the least restrictive environment and are not intended to replace ongoing support services, but to supplement and strengthen the overall care plan.
The goal of In-Home Respite is to support both the individual and their caregiver by ensuring consistent, high-quality care, promoting family stability, and enhancing long-term sustainability of home and community-based living arrangements.
